Our volunteers are at the heart of Mast Cell Action. They bring compassion, expertise, creativity and, in many cases, their own lived experience of MCAS to everything they do. Across our different teams, they offer support, share knowledge, develop resources, raise awareness and help our community feel heard and less alone.

Every volunteer gives their time in a different way, but together they make an extraordinary difference. We are incredibly proud to introduce the people and teams whose dedication, kindness and commitment help bring our work to life.

Meet our Medical Engagement Team

Mast Cell Action would like to thank Purpose.co.uk and Blinkio.co.uk for their very generous support in designing and building this website.

Jillaine is one of our Volunteer Peer Supporters.

"I wanted to become a volunteer with Mast Cell Action to pay forward the wonderful support I received from Mast Cell Action during my own health struggles.

I was diagnosed with MCAS in 2022, after several years of ill health and unexplained symptoms, which had a significant impact on my life."

"Through a combination of diet, supplements, medication and ‘brain retraining’ techniques - something I am now especially interested in - I have seen a significant improvement in my health and am enjoying life again.

I believe Mast Cell Action’s peer support service is an invaluable source of emotional support, understanding and reassurance for those living with MCAS. Now that I have regained my own health it feels important to give back by offering others the support I received and becoming a Peer Support Volunteer."

Nina is one of our Volunteer Peer Supporters.

"I was inspired to volunteer with Mast Cell Action after attending their community support group. Listening to others share how difficult they were finding their MCAS symptoms really stayed with me. I remember thinking that if I could help in any way—even just by listening or sharing my experience—I wanted to be part of that. I’m now fortunate to be experiencing good periods of time symptom-free, and I would love to share how I made that possible with others who may still be struggling."

"I truly believe that advocacy and support are essential when living with MCAS—every day can feel like a fight, but you are worth fighting for, and I’m proof that things can improve.

I live with myxoedema, type 2 diabetes, IgE-mediated food allergies, and MCAS. Through treatment and persistence, my health is now much more stable than it once was. Outside of my health journey, I enjoy being part of a ladies’ choir and swimming regularly. My outlook on life is guided by the belief: I am a survivor, not a victim—a mindset that has helped me stay resilient through the ups and downs."
